This is my layout for my unit 3 project (To create a magazine front cover and DPS). I haven't finished it completely yet i still have to work on some of the design options, add in the photo shoot pictures and edit some of my article, but this is my prototype for what the layout should be like. From doing this i learnt many skills for InDesign, the first and simplest one is how to download new fonts for use, an example of this that is in my work would be the phrase 'The modern day western' the font itself is called 'Western' the way in which i got this font was by going onto the website 'www.Dafont.com' its a website primarily around obtaining new fonts. To get it i typed into the websites custom search bar 'western' as i knew i wanted it to have that theme and luckily enough the first one was the one i was searching for, i then click the button 'Download' and within 5 seconds it had been downloaded onto my computer, i then clicked onto the file, then 'install' and then click the tick box next to the text and clicked 'install checked' and it was instantly on the font selection in InDesign and that is how i got the custom text.
The next skill that i learned which was invaluable to my work was how to create a document which sounds like it is a simple thing to do which it is however getting it right can be tricky, to do this i first needed a magazine that looked similar to what i was doing. After getting the right magazine (NME) i then proceeded to measure out the page size by length and height, The top and bottom margins and the inside and outside of the page. The next step was just to check out how many columns it had (3) and then i got all of this information and inserted it into the information boxes at the setup page for a new document. The reason everything had to be so precise was because if it was wrong the whole DPS would be off centre and it would look unprofessional.
